KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Denise Azcui of the
 Western Michigan women's tennis team was presented the Robert E. Boughner Engineering Student-Athlete award during halftime of the men's basketball game on Wednesday evening.

"I can't think of anyone more deserving than Denise to receive this award," commented WMU head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "She is the true definition of a student athlete. She is a tremendous worker both in the classroom and on the court."
The award is named in honor of Bob who formerly served as associate dean of Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and was a member of the Athletic Board of Control. This award is an endowment created by his friends and colleagues to recognize an outstanding engineering student athlete.

The junior is the captain the Bronco women's tennis team and in the classroom carries an overall grade point average of 3.94 in Industrial and Entrepreneurial Engineering. On the court she is 9-7 overall, tied for a team-high in total wins, and 5-4 in dual match play including an impressive 3-0 record at No. 2.

As a team, Western Michigan improved to 5-4 overall and 4-0 at home after defeating Big East foe Marquette on Sunday, Feb. 18. Azcui played a big role in the victory, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at the three spot.

The Broncos are home on Saturday, Feb. 24, hosting Spring Arbor at 5 p.m. inside West Hills before making a short trip to Kalamazoo College on Sunday, Feb. 25. First serve against the Hornets is set for 4 p.m. Admission to this weekend's matches is free.
