"We got off to a rough start on bars and left that event counting a fall, but the vault squad refocused and turned in six solid vaults," commented WMU head coach Penny Jernigan. "Taylor Buis competed the best vault of her career so far while Kira, Jessi, Morgan and Kelsey had great floor routines. The beam team picked it back up in the end to help us close out the win."

As a team the Broncos took the vault and beam in unfamiliar territory while junior Rachael Underwood led the Brown & Gold in two events, taking first and second on the balance beam and vault. Sophomore Amelia Mohler took first on the bars while seniors Jessica Juncaj and Kelsey Hood and freshman Morgan Spence led WMU on the floor.

Mohler got things started early on the uneven bars with a 9.825 to win the event while Hood and Spence followed behind with a 9.725 each, good for a fourth place tie as the Broncos finished with a team score of 47.075.

The Broncos scored their lowest vault score of the season with a 48.375 but Underwood and sophomore Taylor Buis led the charge with a 9.725, respectively. Their scores were good for a second place tie overall while freshman Sarah Shirley added a 9.700 for fourth. Senior Katie Jennings added a 9.650 to take fifth.

On floor WMU totaled a team score of 48.225, another season-low, but Juncaj, Spence and Hood led all Broncos with a 9.800 each for a third place tie. Kira Hoy tied a career-high 9.775 on the event, which placed her in sixth overall.

In the last event of the night, WMU took the beam with a 48.750 total. Underwood claimed the overall title with a 9.825 while Juncaj (9.775) and Spence (9.750) took second and third overall. Buis and Shirley followed behind to take fourth and sixth.

The Brown and Gold return to Kalamazoo on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. inside University Arena against Kent State. The dual meet is scheduled to stream live on ESPN3.
