After falling 4-3 in Marquette last season, WMU had its revenge today and are now 2-1 against the Golden Eagles under head coach Ryan Tomlinson.

"Today was a great win moving forward," commented Tomlinson. "I thought we played pretty good tennis for having been off from competition for 15 days due to us canceling our matches last weekend as a result of weather. I felt confident with all four of our upperclassmen being the last matches on. I though our two captains really led the way for us today in Melina and Denise."

The Broncos got things started early in doubles, winning at both No. 1 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point. After winning by forfeit at No. 3, the duo of Katja Fevralev and Melina Lyubomirova snapped a four-match losing streak together winning at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point.

After going up 2-0 after Marquette was forced to forfeit at the sixth singles position, the Brown & Gold did the rest of their damage from there. No. 3 Denise Azcui dominated Andrea Amortegui 6-2, 6-1 to give WMU a 3-0 lead as the junior improves to 9-7 overall, 5-4 this spring and is a winner of her last four singles matches.

The Golden Eagles did cut the deficit to one after winning at No. 5 and No. 2 but after dropping her first set 7-6 (4), junior Melina Lyubomirova continued her dominance at the one spot with a comeback three-set victory to clinch the match for the Broncos. Junior Katja Fevralev finished the day with a win at No. 4, improve to 5-3 this spring, including a 3-3 record at four.

The Broncos take a couple weeks off before heading to Florida for spring break. Western Michigan will face South Florida on March 4 in Tampa before playing Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers.
