COLUMBUS, Ohio – With its first of three meets on the road, the Western Michigan gymnastics team fell at Ohio State on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 195.725-193.900. After the day, the Broncos are now 3-3 overall and look to bounce back next Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Rutgers quad meet.

Overall, the Brown & Gold did not improve from last Sunday's meet against Kent State but did however improve on the beam with a score of 48.400 in unfamiliar territory. The Broncos took the beam event, claiming the top three spots highlighted by senior
Kira Hoy recording a career-best 9.875 on the event. A different WMU gymnasts led the team on the remaining three events while freshman
Morgan Spence claimed her fourth all-around title, scoring a 38.150.
On bars, Western Michigan was led by freshman
Stacie Harrison and sophomore
Amelia Mohler as the two both notched a 9.775, tying for fifth overall. Junior standout
Rachael Underwood struggled on the event this afternoon, hurting her all-around score, scoring an 8.850 on the uneven bars.
Sophomore
Taylor Buis led all WMU gymnasts on vault, scoring a 9.775, good for a second place tie with three other Buckeyes. Harrison took second for the Broncos with a vault score of 9.725.
Improving by over .225 points as a team on the beam from last time out, the Brown & Gold recorded a 48.400 in Columbus. Hoy took the event followed by Underwood with a 9.850 and senior
Jessica Juncaj taking third on a 9.825.
The floor exercise was the highest for the Broncos, as the team totaled a 48.925. Underwood's 9.850 placed her in a fourth-place tie while Harrison and senior
Katie Jennings tied for seventh overall off a 9.825 score.
Spence and Underwood were the only gymnasts on the day to post all-around scores, finishing with 38.150 and 38.125 totals. Spence has now taken the all-around in four of her six meets during her freshman campaign.
Western Michigan travels to Piscataway, N.J. next to participate in a quad meet on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., facing host Rutgers, Towson and Ursinus College.
