KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team snapped its two-meet winning streak on Sunday, falling to Kent State with a score of 195.575-194.975 inside University Arena for its annual Pink Meet. The Broncos are now 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference.

After a tough meet in unfamiliar territory last time out, Western Michigan improved on all but one of their events on Sunday but were only able to win vault against the Golden Flashes. Four different Broncos led in each event highlighted by freshman

Morgan Spence tied a career-high all-around score of 39.075 but fell to Kent State's leading gymnast and two-time MAC Gymnast of the Year, senior Rachel Stypinski, who garnered a 39.350. In just five meets in her early career, Spence has won the all-around three times.
The Broncos took vault, 48.825-48.325, led by Shirley claiming the event followed by Underwood and Buis, who tied a season-high 9.775, finishing second and third overall.
Through the second rotation Western Michigan held a 0.325 advantage, after tying a season-high team total of 48.950 on the uneven bars. The score also is tied for 10th highest in program history. Spence notched a career-high score of 9.875 to lead the Broncos and take second overall behind Stypinski's 9.950. Freshman teammate Harrison tied a career-high on the bars with a 9.850.
Western Michigan struggled on the beam this afternoon, scoring a meet-low 48.175 on the event. Senior
Jessica Juncaj finished third overall on a 9.825 to lead the Broncos. In the fourth and final rotation, the Broncos scored its second highest floor score of the season with a 49.025. Underwood tied a career-high with an amazing 9.900 performance, tying Stypinski for first on the event. Senior
Kelsey Hood (9.825) and junior
Katie Jennings (9.825) both had season-high scores, tying for third overall on the floor exercise.
The Brown & Gold hit the road for their next three meets, beginning at Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio. The next home meet for WMU is scheduled for March 10 against Ball State.
