CLEVELAND – As announced by the league office on Monday, Western Michigan men's basketball senior guard
Thomas Wilder was named Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Player of the Week.
In two contests against Toledo and Northern Illinois, Wilder averaged 32.5 points and shot 52.8 percent from the field while also going 22-of-25 from the free-throw line. The Montgomery, Ill., native also averaged 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
It was a career-night for Wilder against Toledo as the senior guard registered a career-high 40 points on 11-of-24 shooting from the field. Against the Rockets, Wilder also collected five rebounds and four assists and went 15-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Wilder's 40 points is the most by a MAC player this season as Wilder is now just one of 16 players in the NCAA to register a 40-point game. Against the Rockets, Wilder was the first Bronco to have a 40-point performance since Booker James did so in 1987.
On Saturday, Wilder led all scorers with 25 points as the Broncos defeated Northern Illinois, 79-72. The senior guard shot a staggering 67 percent (8-of-12) from the field and made seven of his eight free-throws.
The combined 65 points over the week moved Wilder into second on WMU's all-time scoring list with 1,835. Wilder needs just 287 points to become WMU's all-time leading scorer while he needs just 165 points to become the second player in school history to reach 2,000 career points.
On the season, Wilder is averaging 19.0 points per game which ranks second in the MAC. The Montgomery, Ill., native also ranks second in the conference with 4.4 assists per game.
Wilder shared the weekly honor with Toledo's Tre'Shaun Fletcher.
