"We were out competed and outworked tonight," commented WMU head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "You have to be willing to do the hard things to be successful in this game. We will get back at it this week and make adjustments."

The Lobos took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1 in that order, taking a 1-0 lead heading into singles. New Mexico took a 3-0 lead after winning matches at the one and six spots before junior Denise Azcui delivered a punch at the No. 2 position. Azcui defeated Wong 6-4, 6-3 to keep the Broncos alive, picking up her first victory at No. 2 in dual play.

UNM clinched the match however closely afterwards at No. 3. Freshman Jeryn Jack gave a good fight at No. 5, falling in the third set (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).

The Broncos head home after playing their last three matches in unfamiliar territory. WMU welcomes IUPUI and Hillsdale College for a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 3 with match times at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. inside the West Hills Athletic Club. Admission to all home matches is free.
