Broncos Fall to No. 15 Omaha, 7-3

OMAHA, Neb. – The 11th-ranked Western Michigan hockey team settled for the season split with No. 15 Omaha, after falling 7-3 at Baxter Arena on Saturday night.

WMU took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Dawson DiPietero just 4:29 into the first period. Omaha then scored four straight goals, two in the first and two in the second period, to take a 4-1 lead.

Cam Orchard netted his first collegiate goal at 8:41 in the second period to cut the lead to 4-2 but UNO responded with two more goals to push the lead to 6-3.

Freshman forward Josh Passolt cut the lead to 6-3 late in the third period at 15:35 on his ninth goal of the season, but UNO added its seventh and final goal just 24 seconds later.

The Broncos outshot the Mavericks 37-35 on the night and went 2-for-8 on the power play, scoring on the man advantage for the seventh consecutive game. Omaha finished 1-for-4 on the power play and also netted a short-handed goal.

Western Michigan continues its road trip next weekend at Miami, taking on the RedHawks on Friday at 7:35 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
