"We played really well today but there is a reason this team is No. 19 in the country," commented WMU head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "We played great in doubles to start the match off and had some big chances to win the point. They came out and took it to us in singles but we were able to come back in second sets and make them work. We will learn from this and come our ready to go tomorrow."
This was the first dual match of the spring for the Lady Bears, as they swept the match, claiming all three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Bronco duo of
Katja Fevralev and
Melina Lyubomirova put up a big fight at No. 1, but ultimately fell 7-6 (6-2). Freshman
Jeryn Jack was tasked with facing the No. 117 ranked Jessica Hinojosa at No. 5, with Hinojosa coming out with the victory 6-1, 6-1.
The Broncos remain in Waco for one more match tomorrow, facing New Mexico at 6 p.m. (EST). The Brown and Gold return home for a doubleheader inside West Hills on Saturday, Feb. 3 as IUPUI (1 p.m.) and Hillsdale College (6 p.m.) visit Kalamazoo. Admission to all women's tennis matches is free.
