KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team returns to Kalamazoo on Sunday, Jan. 28 for its second home meet of the season, welcoming Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green. The Broncos welcome the Falcons inside University Arena for their annual Alumni Meet that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN3 and admission to all home gymnastics meets is free.

The Brown and Gold (1-2) began the 2018 season with a home victory over Illinois-Chicago. Junior
Rachael Underwood was crowned the all-around winner with a score of 39.150 and won three individual events to lead the Broncos to a 193.425 team score. WMU followed that up with a loss in its MAC opener at CMU but improved its team score to 195.425, arguably one of the highest scores in program history this early on in the season.
After last week's performance at Central Michigan, two Broncos garnered weekly conference honors. Sophomore
Amelia Mohler was named MAC Specialist of the Week after scoring the highest score of the meet for the Broncos on the uneven bars with a career-best 9.900, good for a first place tie, in her collegiate debut. Underwood was tabbed MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week leading the Broncos in the vault (9.825), floor (9.800) and beam (9.875).
Western Michigan is currently ranked 37
th in the nation after two meets, averaging 194.425. The Broncos stand 23rd on the bars with a 48.775 average, 38
th on floor (48.738) and 39
th on vault (48.713). Underwood is tied for 29
th nationally in the all-around (39.150) and 48th on beam (9.838) while Mohler sits tied for seventh on the uneven bars (9.900).
Bowling Green was selected to finish third in the 2018 MAC Gymnastics Preseason Poll and improved to 3-0 this season after winning their first MAC opener since 2014 with a 195.025 victory over the reigning conference champions Eastern Michigan. BGSU enters the meet ranked 34
th in the nation with a 194.617 average through three meets.
Individually, the Falcons have three gymnasts ranked in the top-20 in the country including Jovannah East who ranks tied for sixth on vault (9.850) and 11
th on the floor exercise (9.842), India McPeak is tied for 17th on the beam (9.817) and Laure Mitchell with a 9.808 average on the balance beam. The Falcons are coached by Kerrie Turner in her 11
th season and owns a 50-106 record at the helm.
Following Sunday's meet, the Brown and Gold hit the road to face Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The dual meet is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
