Women's Tennis Travels to Baylor For Two Matches

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team (2-2) continues its stretch of tough matches this weekend with a pair of matches in Waco, Texas. The Broncos will face No. 19 Baylor on Friday, Jan. 26 before facing New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Last timeout the Broncos travelled to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Notre Dame on Tuesday night, falling by a score of 7-0. Doubles partners of juniors Melina Lyubomirova/ Katja Fevralev dropped their first match of the spring and now are 2-1 at the No. 1 spot. In singles play, Fevralev and freshman Jeryn Jack saw their undefeated records snapped as well.
  
Baylor begins its spring season with WMU, ranked No. 19 in the ITA National College Tennis rankings. The Bears also have three players that are ranked nationally including No. 98 Theresa Van Zyl, No. 110 Livia Kraus and No. 117 Jessica Hinojosa. In the fall. Baylor posted an impressive 31-14 singles record to go along with a 10-7 record in doubles play.
 
New Mexico opens its spring season against Baylor on Friday before they play WMU on Saturday. Last season New Mexico went 8-13 overall and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos will be returning two players from last year's team, Diana Wong and Ruth Copas, and have brought in seven freshmen to this year's team. Wong lead the team last year with an 11-2 record in the spring. Copas finished the season with a 4-12 record.
 
The Brown and Gold return to West Hills on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a doubleheader against IUPU and Hillsdale College. Admission to all home tennis matches is free
