WMU Hosts Toledo Tuesday on Student Appreciation Night

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  – Western Michigan men's basketball welcomes Mid-American Conference West Division leader Toledo to University Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 23 as part of Student Appreciation Night.

It's Student Appreciation Night inside University Arena as the first 300 students receive FREE food courtesy of Cottage Inn and Big Burrito. The first 500 students will receive a FREE 22 oz. WMU stadium cup.

Scouting the Broncos
The Broncos look to snap its two-game losing streak as WMU sits with an overall record of 11-8 and 3-3 in MAC play. The Broncos have three players averaging in double figures with senior guard Thomas Wilder leading the way at 17.5 points per game.

The Best of the MAC West
Since 2013, WMU is 27-16 against MAC West opponents. This season WMU is 1-1, falling to Toledo before defeating Ball State.

Broncos Bounce Back
Last season when the Broncos played a team in the MAC regular season for a second time, WMU was 6-1. Coming off a loss this season, WMU is 5-2.

Wilder Moving His Way Up the Record Books
Wilder needs just 17 points to move into second on WMU's all-time scoring list. With 1,770 career points, Wilder seeks to pass Manny Newsome for second most all-time. In MAC play alone, Wilder has registered 995 career points.

Protect the Ball & Force Turnovers
WMU is one of the best teams in the nation in holding on to the ball, ranking 27th in the NCAA in fewest turnovers. Since the start of MAC play the Broncos have been the best team at forcing opponent turnovers, ranking first with a +4.67 turnover margin.

Home Sweet Home
Under head coach Steve Hawkins, WMU is 159-40 at home and is 98-27 in home conference games. The Broncos have played much better at home this season, averaging 80 points per game compared to just 68.1 on the road.

Toledo Rewind – Jan.9, 2018
On Jan. 9, the Broncos traveled to Toledo for a MAC West showdown with the Rockets and fell, 84-61. WMU was unable to combat the hot shooting of Toledo as UT shot a staggering 57.4 percent from the field and 56.5 percent from three.

Scouting the Rockets
Toledo is currently on a five-game winning streak and sits atop the MAC West standings at 5-1 and an overall record of 13-6. The Rockets average 79.9 points per game which ranks second in the conference while their .417 field-goal percentage ranks first in the MAC.

UT is led by the duo of senior Tre'Shaun Fletcher and junior Jaelan Sanford who both rank in the top ten in scoring. Fletcher also ranks third in the MAC with 8.4 rebounds per game. Heading into Tuesday's contest, Toledo received 37 votes in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
