BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team split a pair of away matches on Saturday as the Broncos fell to Indiana (6-1) and defeated Butler (7-0). The Brown and Gold are now 2-1 overall on the season.

"Playing two team matches in a day is never easy," head coach Ryan Tomlinson stated. "We played Indiana at positions 1-4 extremely close but they played the bigger points better today. We came out with great energy in doubles during the second match which set the tone early. We are looking to play better tennis each match which we did from last weekend to this weekend."
 
Earlier this morning against Indiana, junior Katja Fevralev won the lone point for the Broncos in the fourth position. Fevralev defeated Xiwei Cai in a tough 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) battle, improving to 2-0 in singles play. Junior Melina Lyubomirova had a hard fought match against Natalie Whalen but fell short with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) while junior Denise Azcui battled in her match against Caitlin Bernard but fell at No. 3.
 
The Broncos bounced back with a bang, securing their second win of the season in a dominating 7-0 win over Butler. The Brown and Gold cruised past the Bulldogs, taking the doubles point and all six singles matches as Jeryn Jack, Melina Lyubomirova, Valeria Riegraf, Barbare Eristavi, Gabriela Slavova and Azcui all earned wins in order of the lineup.
 
Western Michigan begins a tough five-match stretch, playing five in the next seven days with the next three in unfamiliar territory. The Broncos travel to South Bend, Ind., on Tuesday, Jan. 23 to begin the stint followed by Baylor (Jan. 26) and New Mexico (Jan. 27) in Waco, Texas.
