KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads to the University of Michigan on Saturday for the Wolverine Invite at the brand new Michigan Indoor Track facility.
Events begin at 11:30 a.m. and will feature the host Wolverines, Notre Dame, Michigan State, South Florida, Eastern Michigan and Hillsdale College.
The Broncos are coming off an impressive 90-44 win over Oakland to open up the 2018 indoor season last Saturday. WMU won 11 of the 13 events on its way to victory. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Anderson won both the 800m and mile runs, while sophomore Gabrielle Collins won the long jump, triple jump and the 60m hurdles.
One athlete that did not compete last weekend was the reigning Mid-American Conference Cross Country champion Hanne Christensen. The senior will take part in the mile run, along with last week's 3,000m run winner Claire Gilbert.
"We are just looking for good effort at this time of year," said associate head coach Taryn Sheahan, who coaches the distance runners. "We had great effort last weekend and are really looking forward to going to Michigan's brand new facility. It will be a great chance for us to compete against some really good teams."
Anderson will be jumping up in distance on Saturday and competing in the 3,000m run.
Western Michigan will continue its trip through Big Ten country next weekend, heading to the Indiana University for the Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
