"I think we had a great singles showing this weekend, especially Maik, Eric and Jannik," commented WMU head coach
Dave Morin. "We have been emphasizing and focusing on individual work more than doubles in practice, I believe we have the individual pieces but we just have to spend more time on playing with each other and we will be more successful in our doubles play."
During the first round of doubles today the duo of freshman
Zac Faveri and junior
Kris Knof grabbed the lone win for the Broncos against Butler, moving to 2-0 together this season. The duos of
Nick Schnobel/Opitz and
Billy Heckman/
Lenhard Haupt each picked up doubles wins today against Illinois State, helping the Broncos go 2-2 in the second round of doubles play.
In singles play, Steiner, Olivarez and Opitz all stayed unbeaten with wins as the three each improved to 3-0 this season. Steiner was the only player in the tournament at No. 1 to go undefeated while earning a 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 win over Kissell of Valparaiso this afternoon. Both Olivarez and Opitz earned wins over opponents from Valparaiso as well.
The Broncos will head to the Toledo Rocket Invitational this coming weekend.
