YORKTOWN, Ind. – After the first round of play at the Players Club golf course, the Western Michigan golf team sits in seventh place at the 2017 Ball State Cardinal Classic.

WMU combined to shoot a total two-round total of 294, sitting just three strokes behind Celevand State for sixth place. The University of Indianapolis leads the tournament with a total of 569, followed by Bradley, Toledo, Southern Illinois, and Akron in the 19-team field.

"Today was a great start to the season for this team," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "I saw a lot of good golf today, but more importantly we stayed true to who we are. We worked hard on staying in the present moment and it paid off."
