KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The accolades continue to grow for Western Michigan senior Darius Phillips, who was named to the Paul Hornung Award Week 2 Honor Roll. Phillips was one of five players honored by the Hornung Award, which is given to the most versatile player in major college football.

The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission to the most versatile player in major college football.

Also on Monday, Phillips collected his second-straight Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week honor.

Phillips accounted for both Western Michigan touchdowns this past Saturday in a 28-14 loss at Michigan State. Phillips forced a fumble and took the recovery 67-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter he returned a 100-yard kickoff return for the second-straight week and fourth time in his career. Phillips also added an interception and tied a career-high with three pass break-ups against the Spartans.

The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed.

Texas Roadhouse signed on as presenting sponsor of the Paul Hornung Award in 2011 and will team with the Louisville Sports Commission to power fan voting again this season. College football fans nationwide will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite player during the regular season and again during the bowl season. Fan voting factors into the selection of the Paul Hornung Award finalists and winner.

After playing its first two games of the season on the road, Western Michigan (0-2) looks to bounce back with three straight home games at Waldo Stadium. The season-opener against Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 16 is the annual CommUniverCity game with kickoff at 7 p.m. The Broncos then host Wagner on Sept. 23 and face Ball State to start Mid-American Conference play on Sept. 30.
