Men's Ice Hockey | August 07, 2017
The Western Michigan Hockey Friends & Alumni, sponsored by Zeigler Automotive, was once again a resounding success.
Following a well-attended social gathering the night before, over 200 showed up on Saturday to watch
Chris Brooks, Troy Thrun and Russ Kreis get inducted into the Gun Lake Casino WMU Hockey Ring of Honor. Afterwards 144 golfers took to a scramble tournament at The Moors. Jeff Hoerle, Rob Yamashita, Travis Sopjes and Mike Baker came away the winners. Alum and current Detroit Red Wing defenseman Danny DeKeyser won the longest drive for the men, while Jen Kaufman claimed it for the women. Thrun won the closest to the pin contest, while WMU professor Dr. JoAnne Atkin was closest for the women.
Head coach
Andy Murray would like to thank Lawson Ice Arena business director
Lynn Ross and WMU Hockey Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events, Ken Dickie, for the work they put in to make it a successful event.
