Baseball Walk-On Tryout Information

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan baseball will hold walk-on tryouts for the 2017-18 school year on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field. To try out for a Western Michigan varsity athletic team, you must be a current, full-time student at WMU.

This tryout will consist of the 60-yd dash, skill demonstration from your selected position, batting practice as well as pitcher's bullpens. Please note, participating in the tryout does NOT guarantee a spot on the 2017-18 team under any circumstance.
 
There will be a MANDATORY meeting prior to the tryout at the Seelye Center, third floor, on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  Interested students are required to attend ONE meeting time ONLY, not both.  Listed below are the requirements you will need in order to be permitted to tryout on the 14th.

Current and incoming students will need the following:
  • A current class schedule showing you are enrolled as a full-time student
  • Photo ID
  • Proof of Insurance
  • A current Physical, including sickle cell test from a physician which must be within last six months.
  • Character reference letter from someone other than a family member if selected.
  • A physical, sickle cell test, and insurance paperwork must be completed to attend the tryout session. A PDF of the required physical form, as well as insurance form, can be downloaded at the top of this page.
If you do not have ALL of the materials that apply to you, then you will not be able to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS! 

No form is necessary for the sickle cell test. A copy of the results should be turned in with physical and proof of insurance. Physicals and sickle cell test may be done on campus at the Sindecuse Center or by a family physician. 

*Please note, appointments are needed for physicals at the Sindecuse Center, contact: (269) 387-3290. Physicals must have been performed in the last six months.

** Again, please note that in order to participate in the tryout, you must be at the meeting on the 6th and be able to provide all necessary medical information, photo ID and class schedule.

All medical and general paper work needs to be turned into Krysten Binfet in the Athletic Training Room on the second floor of the Seelye Center by Sept. 8. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
