Men's Soccer Picked to Finish Fourth in MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Western Michigan men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference men's soccer preseason poll, released by the conference Tuesday.
 
The Broncos tied with Bowling Green in fourth place with 20 points. Akron which is ranked #16 in the country was picked to win the conference with 35 total points.  Rounding out the rest of the poll was West Virginia in second, SIU Edwardsville in third and Northern Illinois in fifth.
 
WMU finished last season with a 9-6-4 overall record and qualified for the MAC Tournament for the fourth-straight season under head coach Chad Wiseman. The team's only regular-season MAC loss was to eventual champion Akron.
 
Western Michigan began the 2017 season with a win in PKs against DePaul 1-1 (4-2). Sophomore midfielder Anthony Bowie tied the match late to force PKs. Senior Jay McIntosh gave WMU the lead in PKs 3-2 and junior Kosti Moni made good on his shot giving the Broncos 4-2 advantage, sealing the WMU victory.  
 
Western Michigan has one more exhibition match left with Detroit Saturday, August 19 at 12:00 p.m. in Detroit. The Broncos will open regular season play at home against LIU Brooklyn on Friday, August 25 at 5:00 p.m.
