CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Western Michigan men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference men's soccer preseason poll, released by the conference Tuesday.

The Broncos tied with Bowling Green in fourth place with 20 points. Akron which is ranked #16 in the country was picked to win the conference with 35 total points. Â Rounding out the rest of the poll was West Virginia in second, SIU Edwardsville in third and Northern Illinois in fifth.

WMU finished last season with a 9-6-4 overall record and qualified for the MAC Tournament for the fourth-straight season under head coach
Chad Wiseman. The team's only regular-season MAC loss was to eventual champion Akron.

Western Michigan began the 2017 season with a win in PKs against DePaul 1-1 (4-2). Sophomore midfielder
Anthony Bowie tied the match late to force PKs. Senior
Jay McIntosh gave WMU the lead in PKs 3-2 and junior
Kosti Moni made good on his shot giving the Broncos 4-2 advantage, sealing the WMU victory. Â

Western Michigan has one more exhibition match left with Detroit Saturday, August 19 at 12:00 p.m. in Detroit. The Broncos will open regular season play at home against LIU Brooklyn on Friday, August 25 at 5:00 p.m. Â
