"Striving for excellence in the classroom and on the court has always been the foundation of our program," commented WMU head coach Dave Morin. "I'm very proud of our team being recognized as ITA All-Academic once again as well as Matt, Daniel, Kennosuke and Jannik for their individual accomplishments."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
WMU had a team combined grade point average of 3.44. This is the 17th time the Broncos have won the honor, and the 12th time in the last 13 years under head coach Dave Morin.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.50 over the course of the current academic year.
Individually, the Broncos had three players finish with a perfect 4.00 academic year in seniors Hamilton and Loebel and freshman Opitz. Nouchi finished his freshman year with a 3.65 GPA.
