KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan hockey director of player development David Killip has been named assistant coach of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the British Columbia Hockey League.

Killip spent a year in his current position with the Broncos after spending the 2015-16 season as a assistant coach. The Kelowna, B.C., native also had  stint with the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association after graduating from WMU. He played in 47 career games in the Brown & Gold before an injury ended his playing career prematurely. From there he transitioned into coaching.

"David has been a true Bronco through and through," said head coach Andy Murray. "He was a leader as a player, a captain and did a great job as a coach. In his new position he really helped the program on and off the ice. He will be missed."

Killip heads back to where he played juniors prior to Western Michigan. He played three seasons from 2008-11 with Salmon Arm, appearing in 166 career games and racking up 148 total points and spending time as a captain.

"My six years with Western Michigan have been an incredible experience and I want to thank Andy Murray and Kathy Beauregard, especially, along with all of the other coaches, administrators, and players who make this place so special," said Killip. "I am excited to head home and get started with Salmon Arm and look forward to following the Broncos continued success."

A search for Killip's replacement will begin immediately.
