KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan senior third baseman
Kelsea Cichocki was named to the 2017 Academic All-District Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cichocki was selected by voters in District 5, which represents Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
The honor is to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Cichocki recently completed her degree in University Studies and graduated from Western Michigan with a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average.Â
On the field, Cichocki enters the final regular-season weekend ranked No. 43 in the nation with a .411 batting average, good for first in the Mid-American Conference. Cichocki also ranks second in the MAC for RBIs (42), total bases (99) and on-base percentage (.471). She is third in slugging percentage (.678).
If Cichocki is able to maintain her current pace, she would become just the second softball player in school history to hit over .400 in a season. WMU Athletics Hall of Famer Stephanie Henderson is the only other Bronco to accomplish the feat, batting a record-high .432 in 1994. The next highest batting average in the WMU annuals is .373.
