KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan have announced a contract for Western Michigan to play a football game in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. WMU will receive $1.2 million from U-M to play in the "Big House".
The game in 2018 will mark the first time the Broncos have played the Wolverines since 2011, a game won in Ann Arbor by Michigan, 34-10. Michigan owns the lead in the all-time series 6-0. The meeting in 2018 will be the fifth time since 2001 the two teams have met, after going nearly 60 years from 1943-2001 without playing. All meetings have taken place in Ann Arbor.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has family ties to Western Michigan. His father, Jack, coached the Broncos from 1982-86 and Jim's brother John, a current head coach for the Baltimore Ravens, was a graduate assistant on the Broncos' staff from 1984-86.
The kickoff time and broadcast details of the game will be announced in the summer of 2018.
