CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan track and field team set a new program record after 18 student-athletes earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors for the outdoor season on Wednesday.
Jordan Anderson (4.00, occupational therapy,), Sarah Anderson (3.55, exercise science), Davonne Bolden (3.25, interdisciplinary health services), Hanne Christensen (3.66, English), Kara Craig (3.70, advertising and promotions), Emily Davis (3.86, food and consumer package goods marketing), Savannah Dugan (3.90, interdisciplinary health services), Makenzie Evers (3.37, athletic training), Kaydon Fosler (3.35, advertising and promotion), Claire Gilbert (3.49, geography), Samantha Howard (3.23, physical education), Allison Hufnagel (3.89, film/video and media studies), Lindsey Hufnagel (3.96, MBA), Keyera Lige (3.28, advertising and promotion), Amy Littlefied (3.26, social work), Jade McKnight (3.32, exercise science), Daya Wagh (3.47, exercise science), and Kaniya Weatherspoon (3.28, nursing) all earned the honors.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. All 18 are also now eligible for the MAC's Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors, which are voted on by the school's Faculty Academic Representatives.
Jordan Anderson was one of nine student-athletes in the MAC with a 4.0 GPA. Sarah Anderson, Davis, Fosler, Allison Hufnagel and Weatherspoon all earn the honors outdoors in their first year of eligibility.
