Tiffels Makes German Squad for World Championships

COLOGNE, Germany – Western Michigan hockey junior forward Frederik Tiffels has been named to Germany's roster for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Germany, beginning on Friday.

Tiffels, a Cologne native, will get to play in front of his home town for all of Germany's seven group stage games. Tiffels earned a spot after starring for the team during their pre-tournament games. Recently he scored two highlight goals in a win over Latvia.

"We are very proud of Freddy," said head coach Andy Murray. "It's always a great experience to get to represent your country and play against some of the top players in the world."

Germany opens up the tournament against the United States on Friday at 2:15 p.m. ET The. game can be seen live on NBCSports.com and live on the NHL Network. Germany plays Sweden on Saturday at 2:15 p.m., Russia on Monday, Slovakia on Tuesday, Denmark next Friday, Italy next Saturday and closes out group play against Latvia on May 16.

Tiffels is not the only Bronco in action in the 2017 World Championships. Alum Danny DeKeyser will play for the United States, which is coached by former WMU head coach and current Detroit Red Wings bench boss Jeff Blashill.
