Amy Yeast MVP: Barbare Eristavi, Senior, Tbilisi, Georgia (GAU)
Named after the WMU Hall of Famer, this award is voted on annually by team members and presented to the player who has demonstrated the most dedication, hard work, sportsmanship and team work. Eristavi finished this season 25-8 overall, 14-7 in dual matches and 7-1 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), all of which were team bests. She ended the season winning seven of her last eight matches, including seven in a row. She also started the season a perfect 10-0 and moved that to 13-1 record at one point.
Tomlinson on Eristavi - "Barbare was voted MVP by her teammates. She had a knack for coming up big at big moments for us this year. She was a complete player in singles and doubles this season."
Coaches Award: Denise Azcui, sophomore, Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington South)
The Coaches Award, also known as the "Unsung Hero Award," is given to the player who makes incredible contribution to her team's success, yet would otherwise go unnoticed. Azcui finished her sophomore campaign 20-13 overall and 4-4 in the MAC in singles. She won 11 of 12 matches from Sept. 16 to Jan. 14.
Tomlinson on Azcui - "There isn't enough room in the article to give Denise the praise she deserves. She is a true Bronco, day in and day out and she put forth the effort and attitude that I want people to strive for in this program."
2017-18 Team Captains: Melina Lyubomirova & Denise Azcui
Tomlinson on Lyubomirova/Azcui – "Denise and Melina have been leaders since they stepped foot on this campus two years ago. They will bring passion and dedication to the program in their new roles. They are great representatives of our program and our university. I am looking forward to them helping lead our 2017-2018 team next year."
