KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field season continues on with Jordan Anderson, Lindsey Hufnagel and the 4x400-meter relay team all qualifying for the 2017 NCAA East Regional Preliminary Championships at the University of Kentucky, beginning next Thursday.
The Anderson will compete in 800-meter run, which she finished in second place in at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship. Her qualifying time came in that race, running 2:08.33. The first round of the 800 takes place next Thursday evening at 8:10 p.m. Anderson has the chance to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at 6:30 p.m., should she finish in the top 24. From there the top 12 advance to the NCAA Championships in
Hufnagel advances in the event she won at the MAC Championships, the 400-meter hurdles. The senior ran a time of 58.40 to break the Kanley Track & Field Complex record on her way to her first individual MAC title. The time ranks her 22nd in the East and the top ranked athlete from the MAC. Hufnagel is the first to compete at the meet, running the hurdles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Both have featured as a part of the 4x400-meter relay team during the season, including helping the squad to a third place finish at the MAC Championship. Senior Sarita Dotson and junior Davonne Bolden also participated on that team. WMU's top time of the season of 3:37.88 came at the Penn Relay Carnivals. The relay squad will have to wait until Saturday evening, running at 9:25 p.m. To advance, WMU must finish in the top 12.
