Smith, who was named a freshman All-American last season by Louisville Slugger, is hitting .343 this season and leads the team with six triples and six stolen bases, while sitting second in RBI (29), doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.512). He has started all 38 games this season at shortstop. Last season, he became the first Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman Position Player of the Year in school history and was named to the All-MAC Second Team and the All-MAC Tournament team.

Smith joins a prestigious list of players from around the country, including Nick Madrigal of Oregon State at No. 1. Smith is the only player from the MAC on the list while joining two players from the B1G.

The Broncos host Oakland in a midweek game on Tuesday, May 2 at 3 p.m. before hosting Southeast Missouri State in a three-game series this weekend.
