PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Western Michigan defensive lineman
Keion Adams was drafted in the seventh round with the 248
th overall selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. Adams gives the Broncos three players drafted this year, the most since having four players taken in 1972. It is the most in a single year from a MAC school since Temple also had three in 2012.
Adams was named an All-MAC selection last year after leading the league in tackles for loss with 18.5 including 7.5 sacks. He earned an invitation to the NFLPA Bowl. He opened the 2016 by having a season-best three quarterback hurries against Northwestern. His highlight moment of the year came in the regular season finale against Toledo when he had a blindside sack and forced one of his three fumbles on the season.
Keion finished his career with 32.0 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. He improved his tackles every year, and ended the 2016 season with 47.
Adams becomes the third Western Michigan player to be drafted by the Steelers and the first since Allen Hughes, another defensive lineman, was taken in 1982.
