KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team splits up to head to the famed 123rd running of the Penn Relay Carnivals and the 51st running of the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays, beginning on Thursday.
The Broncos return to the Penn Relays for the first time since 2013 and take a small squad for the historic meet. Events begin on Thursday with the 400-meter hurdles, featuring senior Lindsey Hufnagel and freshman Erin Dowd. The first relay to be run will be the 4x100-meter dash. Head coach Kelly Lycan is projected to go with Sarita Dotson, Madison Meredith, Naiomi Dulaney and Ayiana Gaines. Currently the Broncos hold the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference in the 4x100 at 45.66 seconds.
Redshirt freshman Gabby Collins is set to compete in the long jump on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., followed by the 4x400-meter relay featuring Dotson, Hufnagel, Gaines and Jordan Anderson at 6:25 p.m. Thursday is closed out with the first 10,000-meter run of the season for Hanne Christensen and Daya Wagh.
Friday's action features the 4x200-meter relay, the shuttle hurdle relay, Hufnagel in the 100-meter hurdles and the sprint medley relay to end the day at 6:21 p.m. WMU wraps up the Penn Relays on Saturday with the 4x800-meter relay featuring Jordan Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Holly Blowers and Claire Gilbert.
Over at Hillsdale College the action begins Thursday evening with the steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run. Friday and Saturday brings a full schedule of action.
