KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan senior designated hitter
Abby Stoner was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Monday, Apr. 24.
Stoner batted .545 (6-for-11) with two home runs, including a grand slam, eight RBIs, six hits, four walks and had a hit in all four of WMU's games this past week as the Broncos faced Notre Dame on the road and played a three-game series at Eastern Michigan.
The Broncos took all three games against EMU for their first MAC sweep of the season. Stoner batted .625 over the three games against the Eagles with seven RBIs and a whopping 1.375 slugging percentage. In game three, Stoner homered in each of her at bats, first hitting a three-run home run in the second inning then smashing a grand slam in the fifth. Stoner totaled seven RBIs in the contest and also had two walks. In game two, Stoner batted 2-for-3 with a walk. In game one she went 1-for-3. In non-conference action at Notre Dame on Wednesday, Stoner had an RBI single and a walk.
Western Michigan (19-24, 7-11 MAC) heads to Toledo in a three-game series this weekend. Play begins with a single game on Friday, scheduled to start at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.Â
