Box Score YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Western Michigan softball took both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Eastern Michigan, defeating the Eagles, 7-5 and 13-1. The Broncos also picked up a 3-2 win on Friday, completing a three-game sweep over the weekend.
GAME ONE
Western Michigan trailed 1-0 in game one after allowing a run in the third. The Broncos stormed back in the sixth, scoring all seven of their runs in the inning. EMU countered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame, but the Broncos were able to hang on for the victory.
Kelsea Cichocki had two of WMU's six hits in the inning, getting the rally started with a one-out home run and later hitting an RBI single.
Abby Stoner,
Marlee Wilson,
Courtney Sleeman and
Erin Barg also singled.
Aspen Williams, Sleeman, Brag and
Ivy Schaaf each recorded an RBI. Williams drew a bases loaded walk while Schaaf was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Sophomore
Jordan Kurth (9-15) earned the win in the pitcher's circle for WMU, throwing five innings and striking out three.
GAME TWO
Abby Stoner hit a three-run home run in the second inning and smashed a grand slam in the fifth as the Broncos cruised to a 13-1, five-inning victory in game two. Stoner tallied seven RBIs in the game.
The Broncos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
Marlee Wilson drove in a run with her 13th double of the season.
Aspen Williams followed with a two-run single.
Mackenzie Swinehart also drove in a run for the Broncos in the second and WMU scored an unearned run in the third. The Broncos pounded out 12 hits as a team.
Holly VanTilburg improved her record to 5-3 with the win in the circle, striking out two over five innings pitched.
The Broncos (19-24, 7-11 MAC) travel to Toledo next weekend for a three-game series against the Rockets, April 28 and 29.
