CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference has released its winter Distinguished Scholar Athletes list with 13 student-athletes from Western Michigan earning the honors. 

The Broncos were represented in track and field, men's and women's basketball and gymnastics. The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is a third-year award given to students who have excelled in athletics and academics.  Following each season from the winter sports schedule, any student with a 3.20 GPA and participation in at least 50 percent of the contests was automatically named to the previously announced Academic All-MAC Team from each sport.  Also, first-year students, junior college and graduate school transfers in their first year of residence were not eligible for the award.

Sophomore gymnast Rachel Underwood was the lone student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA, but Savannah Dugan (3.95), Lindsey Hufnagel (3.95), Seth Dugan (3.94) all finsihed with GPA's of at least 3.90. The group joins WMU's 21 MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes from the fall season.
