KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team heads down to Muncie, Ind., for the Ball State Challenge on Friday and Saturday.

In addition to the host Cardinals, the Broncos will battle Indianapolis, Indiana Tech, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Fort Wayne, and IUPUI.

Friday will be a light day for WMU, competing in just the hammer throw and the javelin. Brittany Casey has been the top hammer thrower so far during the outdoor season for Western Michigan. Casey heads into Friday on the back of a personal-best performance in the event at last week's Crimson Tide Invitational, throwing a distance of 169' 11" for her second personal-best in this season.

A good battle is brewing for WMU's top javelin thrower between senior Kara Craig and sophomore Allison Hufnagel. Both threw their season-bests at the Jack Shaw Classic, with Craig pulling slightly ahead with a distance of 112' 4". Hufnagel is right behind her at 110' 8".

The bulk of the action takes place on Saturday with all the running events and the rest of the field events beginning at 10 a.m.
