The Broncos, who will be honoring lone senior Tracy Kuhle on Sunday, are 9-10 overall, 3-3 in the MAC and are coming off a 1-1 weekend where the team defeated Buffalo in comeback fashion but fell to Akron. The Huskies are 8-12 and 2-4 in the MAC while the Blue Demons will enter the weekend 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the Big East, but do have a match on Saturday against Butler.
"We have to keep competing day in and day out," head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "Only the top six teams get into the tournament, so every match is big. Northern Illinois and DePaul are very good teams and we have to be ready to play. Our last home match of the year is also the last home match for Tracy. She brings so much to the program from an athlete and a student. I hope she can enjoy the day competing at home for the last time.
WMU is led by Barbare Eristavi in singles, who boasts a team-leading 23-7 record overall and 5-1 in the MAC while coming in riding a five-match winning streak. Kuhle has won her last three matches and is now 14-13 overall while Denise Azcui is second on the team in wins at 19-12 overall.
In doubles play, the duo of Eristavi/Katja Fevralev are 3-1 in the MAC and have won two straight while Kuhle/Melina Lyubomirova lead the team in wins with a 10-8 record. Azcui/Olivia Myers are 9-4 overall and 6-3 at No. 2.
After this weekend, WMU will finish out the regular season at Bowling Green on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. before heading to Ball State for the MAC Tournament.
