KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan hockey's Griffen Molino has been named Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Offensive Player of the Week after totaling six points in a split with No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth over the weekend.
In Friday's 7-4 win over the Bulldogs, Molino had a career-high four assists. The sophomore forward assisted on three of the team's first goals as the Broncos built a big lead. Three of his four assists were also on goals by linemate Sheldon Dries, with the senior captain registering his first collegiate hat trick. Molino was also named the No. 2 Star of the Game.
On Saturday he had a goal and an assist in WMU's loss. Molino's big weekend moved him to third on the team in scoring with 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists, surpassing his previous career high of 25 set last season.
Western Michigan hosts Omaha this weekend to open the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Quarterfinals. Omaha's visit this weekend marks a program milestone, the first time in WMU's history it has hosted a playoff series in the NCHC.
