Wilder, Haymond & Jones Earn All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced the All-MAC First Team, Second Team, Third Team and Honorable Mention selections for the 2016-17 season on Monday, March 6. The teams were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches. The league's All-Freshman Team and All-Defensive team were also announced today.

Western Michigan had three players voted as All-MAC selections. Junior point guard Thomas Wilder was named First Team All-MAC while senior Tucker Haymond earned Third Team honors. Reggie Jones was voted to the All-Freshman Team.

Wilder becomes Western Michigan's first First Team selection since 2014 and has now earned an all-conference award in each of his three seasons. Wilder was a Second Team honoree last year and was voted to the All-Freshman team his first season. Wilder's 19.2 ppg in all games ranks fourth in the MAC while his 20.8 ppg in league play ranks third. He is third in the MAC in 3-point percentage (43.1%), ninth in steals (1.4 spg), ninth in assists (3.8 apg) and fourth in FT percentage (83.2).

Haymond ranks 14th overall in scoring at 15 ppg and 10th in MAC scoring with 16.3 ppg. Haymond also averages 5.1 rpg, 2.6 assists and shoots over 46 percent from the floor. Haymond is the lone senior on the Bronco roster and eclipsed 1,500 career points and 500 career rebounds this season. He too was named to the MAC All-Freshman team his first season.

Jones is averaging 9.4 ppg in all games combined and 10.6 ppg in MAC contests. His overall scoring average ranks fourth best among the league's freshmen. Jones also averages 3.2 rpg and has 69 assists and 36 steals on the season. He has come up big in several contests for the Broncos this season. Against Miami on Feb. 7, he scored a career-high 26 points.

Western Michigan begins the MAC Tournament on Monday evening, hosting Miami in a first round game at 7:30 p.m. The winner goes on to face Ball State in the quarterfinals in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday, March 9.
