KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan hockey's Chris Dienes and Mike McKee have both signed professional contracts. McKee has signed with the Detroit Red Wings and Dienes has signed with the Calgary Flames.
Dienes, a senior, appeared in 21 games this season, scoring three goals and two assists for five points. Dienes helped the Broncos to a third place finish in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and a berth in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed. The Traverse City, Mich., native will play for the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL. Dienes appeared in 127 career games in the Brown & Gold, scoring 11 goals and racking up 30 assists.
McKee, a fifth round draft pick of the RedWings, had two goals and two assists in 21 games this year, also finishing +3. The Newmarket, Ontario native appeared in 101 career games with six goals and seven assists. McKee scored a goal in the NCHC Consolation game against the University of Denver, playing all throughout the NCHC Playoffs and in the NCAA Tournament. McKee will join former Broncos Shane Berschbach, Mike Leone and Dane Walters at the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL.
