VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks have announced the signing of Western Michigan sophomore forward Griffen Molino to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Molino is coming off the best season of his collegiate career, scoring 33 points on 15 goals and 18 assists in 40 games. The Trenton, Mich., native also led the Broncos in scoring his freshman year with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. In total he racked up 58 points on 26 goals and 32 assists in 76 career collegiate hockey games with the Broncos.

"I couldn't be more grateful for my past two years at Western Michigan," said Molino. "My teammates, coaches and staff have made my years in Kalamazoo unforgettable. It's unbelievable to become a part of an organization like Vancouver. I would not be in this position I am today without my family, coaches and friends that provided continued support and belief in me. "

Molino was a big key to WMU's success this season, helping the team turnaround from eight wins to 22. With Molino's help, Western Michigan finished in third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and secure home ice in the NCHC Playoffs, both program firsts. The Broncos made it to the NCHC Semifinals and then on to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history.

Molino joins his classmate Matheson Iacopelli in signing deals so far this season. He becomes the eighth player under Murray to sign with a NHL franchise.
