KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan men's tennis will begin its road to defending its Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular Season Championship this weekend as league play begins. WMU will open with Ball State on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. and end the weekend with a second home match against Toledo on Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m.

WMU, who claimed both the MAC Regular Season and MAC Tournament Championship titles last season, enters the weekend at 9-6 overall and 6-2 at home. Ball State is 8-6 coming into the weekend while Toledo is 9-8. Ball State and Toledo will play a match in Kalamazoo on Saturday.
In singles play, Jannik Opitz leads the team with a 22-6 record and has won three straight matches while Eric Olivarez won his 20th match of the season last weekend. Freshman Kennosuke Nouchi is 18-7 and has won six straight matches while senior Matt Hamilton is leading the way this spring with an 11-3 record in dual matches.
Two doubles teams have hit double-digit wins this year, as No. 76 ranked Daniel Loebel/Nouchi are 10-5 while Billy Heckman/Nick Schnobel are 10-6. Hamilton/Opitz are 5-0 together this season, all of which have come this spring.
The Broncos will host Buffalo next weekend on Friday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming in Binghamton on Monday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
