Gymnastics Sends Three to NCAA Regionals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team had three gymnasts qualify for the NCAA Regionals as individuals it was announced today. Anna Corbett, Rachael Underwood and Jessie Peszek will each be making repeat appearances after qualifying last year. For Corbett and Peszek this marks their third trip to the NCAA Regionals.
 
Saturday, Underwood set a new WMU record with a 39.325 in the all-around after scoring a 9.800 or higher on all four events. Her day was highlighted by a 9.850 on vault and floor. Her 9.850 on vault was a career-high, good for second in the event. This season she earned a Regional Qualifying Score of 39.080, the second-highest in program history. This will be her first time qualifying in the all-around.
 
Corbett is making her third trip to the NCAA Regionals in the all-around. She finished this season with an RQS of 39.070, third-best in WMU history. Last Saturday won the vault with a career-high 9.925, which tied the WMU program record. It marked the second time in her career to win a title at the MAC Championships after capturing the MAC All-Around title in 2015. She finished the 2017 Championships with a 39.025 in the all-around.
 
Peszek is making another appearance in the NCAA Regionals on bars and beam. This season, Peszek scored a 9.925 on bars at Texas Woman's quad meet to tie the school record. She finished the year with five scores of 9.900 or higher, including Saturday when she tied for the MAC Championship on bars with a 9.900. She followed up that performance with a 9.900 on beam. Peszek finished the regular season with an RQS of 9.870 on bars and 9.865 on beam, both program records. She was also named the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year for her performance throughout the year.
 
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in St. Louis, Mo., April 14-16.
 
In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
