CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Western Michigan softball team closed out its 12-game trip with a 5-2 victory over Providence College Sunday. Following the win, the Broncos went 7-5 in Florida and improve to 12-11 overall.
Western Michigan got things swinging in the top of the first behind a three-run home run by senior third baseman
Kelsea Cichocki. Providence would threaten in the first with two hits but starting pitcher
Anissa Sanchez would end the inning off a strikeout with runners in scoring positions.
Redshirt junior
Marlee Wilson led the Broncos in the top of the third with a double down the right field line with no outs but the Providence relief pitcher McCune would retire the next three batters including two Bronco strikeouts.
In the bottom of the third, the Friars' leadoff batter hit a triple to center field. Sanchez was able to deliver the next two outs before allowing a single as Providence notched one run in the third.

Erin Barg drove in two more runs in the fifth for the Broncos as left fielder
Aspen Williams and senior
Abby Stoner scored as Western Michigan took a 5-1 lead.
Sophomore pitcher
Jordan Kurth entered in the fifth inning to relieve Sanchez after the Friars capitalized on a run off a double to center field making the score 5-2. The left hander would get the final two outs of the inning including one strike out.
Kurth would pitch the remaining 2.2 innings for Western Michigan as the Broncos took its final game in Florida. Sanchez recorded the win improving her record this season to 4-2 while Kurth was awarded the save.
After the 12-game span, Western Michigan (12-11) will take a break from the action and return to play on Wednesday, March 22 at Detroit. The Broncos will begin Mid-American Conference play with a three-game series against Miami in Oxford, Ohio on Friday and Saturday, March 24 & 25.
