KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team had its best home meet of the season, on senior day, as it beat Southeast Missouri State 195.475-193.100 on Saturday at University Arena. The team's 195.475 tied the ninth-highest all-around team score in program history after also doing so earlier this year at Texas Woman's.
The Broncos had their highest score in University Arena, topping a 194.900 done vs. Eastern Michigan in January. Senior
Anna Corbett who was competing for the final time in Kalamazoo, won two events, first on vault with a 9.850 and then on bars as she scored a 9.875.
Fellow senior
Jessie Peszek was the other Bronco to earn an event title on Saturday, scoring a 9.850 on beam, her second score of 9.800 or higher on the day after finishing runner up to Corbett on bars when she totaled a 9.800.
The team's best event of the day was on beam, an event which it had struggled with consistency on. Saturday the Broncos totaled a 48.950 on beam, with three scores of 9.825 or higher, led by Peszek and followed by
Rachel Binkley and
Jessica Juncaj who each placed second with a 9.825.
The Broncos will now turn their attention to the MAC Championships next week in Bowling Green. The team is looking to finish inside the top-36 to qualify for the NCAA Regionals as a team for the first time in program history. WMU entered the day No. 37 just outside of the top-36.
