KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Freshman Wade Allison netted the game-tying goal with 54.4 seconds remaining in the third period as the Western Michigan hockey team battled Arizona State to a 2-2 tie on Saturday night.
Down 2-1 in the final 90 seconds the ninth-ranked Broncos pulled goalie Ben Blacker to gain the extra attacker. Scott Moldenhauer got the puck to Colt Conrad behind the net and Conrad dished it off to Allison in the left circle. The Philadelphia Flyers' draft pick skated through the slot and buried it to tie the game up at 2-2. The goal was Allison's 11th of the season and fourth point of the weekend.
ASU's wade Murphy scored with 25 seconds remaining in the exhibition 3-on-3 overtime after the teams went scoreless in the official overtime.
The Sun Devils took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tyler Busch at 8:06 in the second period. Bush was fed by Brett Gruber and scored his ninth goal of the season from the slot.
Just over a minute later at 9:19 Conrad scored his third goal of the weekend to tie it up at 1-1. Conrad intercepted an errant pass by an ASU defender and skated in to beat Joey Daccord for his career-high ninth goal of the season.
Jack Rowe gave the Sun Devils a 2-1 lead after Louie Rowe created a turnover in the WMU zone and found Jack alone in the slot for his fourth goal of the season.
WMU outshot ASU 52-33 on the night, with Daccord making 50 saves. Blacker made 31 saves on the night as the Broncos finished the regular season with a non-conference record of 7-0-3 record.
The Broncos resume National Collegiate Hockey Conference play next weekend at Omaha.
