CHICAGO – The Western Michigan gymnastics team went on the road and defeated UIC 195.300-194.200 Sunday in Chicago. It is the 10th highest score in program history for the Broncos, marking the second straight meet above a 195.000.
Sophomore
Rachael Underwood posted a career-high 39.175 on the all-around, tying for the fifth-highest individual all-around score in school history. Underwood had three of her four events total a 9.800 or higher, led by her 9.850 on floor, where she tied for the individual title.
Senior
Jessie Peszek, who came off a week in which she was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, had another standout performance on Sunday. She won the balance beam with a 9.875, one of two events in which she scored above a 9.800 with the bars being the other.
Fellow senior
Anna Corbett had an outstanding meet as well in Chicago. She was just behind Underwood in the all-around with a four-event total of 39.100. Her best score came on vault where she totaled a 9.825, the best of any Bronco.
As a team, the Broncos' best event came on balance beam where the team totaled a 49.050, the best total of the season and fourth-best in program history. Peszek led the way with her 9.875 and was one of three gymnasts above a 9.800 on that event, joining Underwood (9.825) and Corbett (9.800). Freshman
Taylor Buis competed in an exhibition, scoring a 9.800.
WMU will wrap up its current three-meet road trip next Sunday when it travels to Ball State at 1 p.m. It will the first of two meets in three days with the Cardinals, as the Broncos will host both UIC and Ball State at University Arena on Tuesday March 7.
