NORMAL, Ill. – Western Michigan men's tennis earned a 6-1 road win over the Cardinals of Illinois State Saturday afternoon, improving the team to 6-5 overall this season.

The Broncos came right out of the gates and took the first doubles match at No. 3 as Eric Olivarez/Kennosuke Nouchi won 6-1 to improve to 1-0 together this season and the team of Matt Hamilton/Jannik Opitz clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 at No. 1, staying perfect this season at 5-0.
After the Broncos went up 1-0, the team won the first four singles match at No. 4, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 1 to clinch the match. Opitz improved to a team-leading 19-5, Hamilton moved to 15-6 and has now won five straight and Olivarez kept his strong spring campaign going with a win, improving to 17-5 overall and 7-1 this spring. At No. 1, Nouchi earned a win by retirement to move to 14-7 this season while Nick Schnobel won his fifth straight in comeback fashion at No. 6 after the Cardinals won at No. 3.
The Broncos will take the rest of the weekend off, but will come back to host Cleveland State on Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m.
