DENTON, Texas – The Western Michigan gymnastics team had a stellar day on Sunday, posting the ninth-highest score in program history with a 195.475. It is the second time this season the Broncos have broken the 195 mark, previously doing so at Bowling Green.
Senior
Jessie Peszek was the standout of the day for the Broncos, rewriting the record books both on bars and beam. She scored a 9.925 on bars, tops among all four teams at the meet. The score was not just a personal best, but also tied the Western Michigan program record, previously done just three times. Peszek followed it up with a 9.900 on beam, another personal-best and the third highest in WMU history. It was the second time Peszek has scored a 9.900 on beam, previously doing so at Central Michigan last season.
As a team, the Broncos turned in another stellar performance on bars. A week after having the second-highest bars score in school history, the team scored a 49.000, the fifth highest in WMU history. Along with Peszek's 9.925,
Kelsey Hood turned in a strong performance with a 9.850.
Western Michigan rebounded after an intense week of focusing on beam, turning in a score of 48.925 on the event.
Jessica Juncaj had her third score of 9.700 or higher of the day, turning in a 9.775, her best of the day on the event.
Rachael Underwood scored a 9.800 on beam, helping lead her to an all-around score of 39.100, just off her 39.150 score last week. Her day was highlighted by her performance on floor, where she tied her season-best with a 9.875, to win the floor title.
Underwood was joined in the all-around by
Anna Corbett who scored a 9.725 or higher in all four events, with her highest of the day also coming on floor with a 9.800.
WMU will continue its current three-meet road trip next Sunday when it heads to Chicago to compete at UIC. Meet time is set for 3 p.m.
