KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team will begin the first of a three-meet roadtrip on Sunday when it heads to the Lone Star State for a quad meet at Texas Women's University. Along with facing the host TWU, the Broncos will also be up against Penn State and Sacramento State.
The Broncos are coming off their second-best bar routine in program history and the highest at WMU since 2004 after scoring a 49.175 last week vs. Northern Illinois. During the bars routine four gymnasts scored a 9.800 or higher, led by by
Jessica Juncaj who posted a career-high 9.875. She was followed by
Jessie Peszek and
Kelsey Hood who each had 9.850 and
Anna Corbett who scored a 9.825.
At the event, sophomore
Rachael Underwood had a career-high in the all-around with a 39.150, the ninth highest all-around score in program history. She scored a season-high 9.875 on floor to win the individual title in that event along with the all-around title.
Western Michigan enters the meet with a regional qualifying score of 194.029, just above Sacramento State who is averaging 193.896. Penn State comes in to the quad meet with the highest RQS of 194.679 and Texas Women's is averaging 192.910.
