Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekly MAC Awards for Third Straight Week

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- For the third straight week, the Western Michigan men's tennis team swept the weekly Mid-American Conference (MAC) awards, as senior Matt Hamilton won Singles Player of the Week and the duo of senior Daniel Loebel and freshman Kennosuke Nouchi were named Doubles Team of the Week.

Hamilton had a huge week for the Broncos, going 3-0 without dropping a set to improve to 14-6 this season and a team-leading 8-2 in the spring, all of which have come in the top three spots in the lineup. Hamilton defeated Michael Dube of Michigan State 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, took down Chad Kissell of Valpo 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 and ended the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mats Westkamp of Wayne State at No. 1.

Loebel/Nouchi went 1-1 this weekend, including one of the biggest wins individually for any Broncos' member this season. After dropping a tight 7-6 (7-5) match to Michigan State, the two rebounded in a huge way, taking down Valparaiso duo of Charlie Emhardt/Jeffrey Schorsch 7-5, the No. 8 ranked doubles team in the nation. It was the first win in either singles or doubles over a nationally ranked opponent for the Broncos this season.
